Product Description:
The RGB and Gesture Sensor is a small breakout board that has an APDS-9960 sensor, which can measure ambient light and color, detect proximity, and sense touchless gestures. You can use this sensor to control a computer, microcontroller, robot, or any other device with a simple hand gesture. This sensor is the same one used by the Samsung Galaxy S5 and it is one of the best gesture sensors available for its price.
The APDS-9960 has built-in filters that block UV and IR light, four diodes that are sensitive to different directions, and an interface that is compatible with I2C. The following pins are broken out for your convenience: VL (optional power to IR LED), GND (ground), VCC (power to APDS-9960 sensor), SDA (I2C data), SCL (I2C clock), and INT (interrupt). The detection range of the APDS-9960 is 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 cm).

Frequently Asked Questions
What power supply voltage does the GY-9960-3.3 require?
This module operates at 3.3 VDC. Supplying higher voltage may damage the APDS-9960 chip, so ensure your microcontroller’s 3.3 V rail powers VCC.
Which interface does this sensor use for data communication?
The GY-9960-3.3 communicates solely over the I²C bus. Use standard SDA and SCL lines at 3.3 V logic levels to interface with most development boards.
How many gesture directions can it detect?
Thanks to its four directional IR photodiodes, the APDS-9960 can recognize swipe gestures in four directions: up, down, left, and right, as well as detect proximity and stationary hand presence.
