The HC-08 Bluetooth 4.0BLE Serial Port Module is a device that uses the BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) protocol. This protocol is different from the standard Bluetooth protocol in terms of power consumption. Standard Bluetooth uses more power than BLE, but it can handle more data. BLE is suitable for transferring small amounts of data quickly between nearby devices. BLE devices have low power consumption, so they can run for years with a small battery. This makes them ideal for IoT applications.
The HC-08 module can connect easily to iOS 5 and Android 4.3 or above devices using a serial terminal app. It supports Bluetooth communication up to 80 meters (87 yards) away. It operates on a 2.4GHz frequency and has a CC2540 chipset with 256K Byte space. The module allows changing the role and serial baud rate, and it supports AT commands for configuration.
