The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B ARMv8 with 1GB RAM has two major upgrades over the previous models. The first is a next-generation quad-core Broadcom BCM2837 64-bit ARMv8 processor that runs at up to 1.2GHz, compared to the 900MHz of the Pi 2. The second is a built-in BCM43143 WiFi chip that allows the Pi 3 to connect wirelessly without additional peripherals. No more WiFi adapters are needed. The Raspberry Pi 3 is also an excellent IoT solution with onboard Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

Back-compatibility note: The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Original has the same footprint and layout as the Model 2/B+ version, so it is compatible with all Model 2/B+ items. However, the WiFi and Bluetooth antenna has moved the ACT and PWR LEDs to the opposite side of the SD card slot. Cases for the 2/B+ with LED light pipes will fit the new RPi 3, but the light pipes will not align with the LEDs.
