The TEC1-12710 40×40 mm Thermoelectric Cooler 6A Peltier Module uses the Peltier Thermoelectric Effect to create a temperature difference between its two sides. The module has 127 semiconductor couples in a 40 x 40mm area that can cool or heat up to 67°C. The TEC1-12710 40x40mm Thermoelectric Cooler 10.5A Peltier Module works on the same principle.
Thermoelectric coolers, also known as TEC or Peltier Modules, can either warm something up or cool something down, depending on which side you use. You can also use a temperature difference to generate electricity.
This Peltier module works well as long as you remove the heat from the hot side. When you turn on the device, the hot side will heat up quickly and the cold side will cool down quickly. If you do not remove the heat from the hot side (with a heat sink or another device), the Peltier module will reach equilibrium and stop working. We suggest using an old computer CPU heat sink or another metal block to draw heat from the hot side. We used a computer power supply and CPU heat sink to make the cold side so cold that we could not touch it with our finger.
