A thermoelectric cooler (TEC) or Peltier module is a device that uses the Peltier effect to create a heat flux between two different materials. A TEC module consists of many thermocouple junctions connected electrically in series and thermally in parallel. The TEC1-12709 40x40mm Thermoelectric Cooler 9A Peltier Module has 127 such junctions in a 40mm x 40mm area.
When a DC voltage is applied to a TEC module, one side becomes cold and the other side becomes hot. This allows the module to be used for heating or cooling applications by changing the polarity of the input voltage. Alternatively, a temperature difference between the two sides can also generate a voltage output, which can be used for power generation or sensing purposes.
