This is a light-weight, high-torque N20 12v 100 RPM Metal Gear Micro DC Encoder Motor with Precious Metal Brush. It is suitable for various industrial, home appliance and hobby applications. It has an all-metal gearbox assembly that provides amazing torque for this motor size. The motor also uses precious metal brushes, not carbon brushes, which extend its working life compared to carbon-brush motors.
The N20 all-metal geared motor has a much higher torque-to-size ratio than other motors of this size, whether they have metal or plastic gears. The BO motor series 1 and series 2 and the centre shaft 12 V motors are commonly used for small industrial or robotic projects. However, the N20 motor surpasses them all in torque, sturdiness, reliability and working life, as the specifications below show.
The N20 motor is ideal for small IOT (Industrial IOT) products like electric locks, webcam pan-tilts and other similar actuators that need good torque in limited space and weight. For hobby products like robotic cars, micromice, electric boats and other small motor projects that require low power consumption and optimal pricing, the N20 all-metal gear motor is a perfect fit.
This N20 encoder motor can accurately control the motor position.
This N20 Encoder motor works well with our PID Servo controller Drive.

How to Use GA12-N20 12V 100RPM Micro DC Reducer Motor Encoder with Wire
Begin by securing the motor to your frame using its mounting holes. Supply a regulated 12 V DC to the power leads (observe polarity) and connect the encoder wires to your controller’s digital inputs with pull-up resistors. Adjust your control logic to count encoder pulses for closed-loop speed or position control, and tune your drive current to match load requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I wire the encoder outputs?
The motor comes with separate encoder leads—typically two channels (A/B) plus ground. Connect A and B to your microcontroller’s digital inputs with pull-up resistors, tie the encoder ground to your system ground, and power the motor with a stable 12 V supply.
What advantages do precious metal brushes provide?
Precious metal brushes offer lower contact resistance and better wear characteristics compared to carbon brushes. This results in smoother operation, reduced electrical noise, and a longer service life under continuous or intermittent duty.
Can this motor operate at voltages other than 12 V?
The GA12-N20 is optimized for 12 V DC. Running it at lower voltages will reduce speed and torque, while higher voltages can overheat the windings or damage the encoder. For safe, reliable performance, maintain a 12 V supply.
