OE-28 Hall Effect Two Channel Magnetic Encoder
A two-channel Hall effect encoder is used to sense the rotation of a magnetic disk on a rear protrusion of the motor.
shaft. The quadrature encoder provides a resolution of 7 counts per revolution of the motor shaft when counting both edges of both channels. To compute the counts per revolution of the gearbox output, multiply the gear ratio by 48. The encoder has six pins output as shown.
OE-28 Hall Effect Two Channel Magnetic Encoder’s Hall sensor requires an input voltage, Vcc, between 4.5 and 24 V and draws a maximum of 10 mA. The A and B outputs are square waves from 0 V to Vcc approximately 90° out of phase. The frequency of the transitions tells you the speed of the motor, and the order of the transitions tells you the direction.
By counting both the rising and falling edges of both the A and B outputs, it is possible to get 7 counts per revolution.
of the motor shaft by both Channels.
Encoder comes complete accessories required to mount the encoder on motor i.e. plastic case, washer, magnet, connecting cable and set of screws.

OE-28 Hall Effect Two Channel Magnetic Encoder Overview
The OE-28 Hall Effect Two Channel Magnetic Encoder is a compact quadrature feedback device designed for use with Orange planetary DC gear motors. It senses rotation via a magnetic disk on the motor’s rear shaft, delivering precise speed and position signals for closed-loop control and monitoring.
Key Features of OE-28 Hall Effect Two Channel Magnetic Encoder
- Two-channel Hall effect design provides A and B square wave outputs approximately 90° out of phase.
- Resolution of 7 counts per revolution on the motor shaft; for gearbox output, multiply the gear ratio by 48 counts.
- Wide supply range: operates from 4.5 V to 24 V DC with a maximum current draw of 10 mA.
- Compact six-pin connector for Vcc, GND, A/B outputs and index (if applicable).
- Rugged construction tested for electrical and environmental robustness.
- Genuine product with fast shipping across India from Zbotic.
Applications and Use Cases
- Closed-loop speed control on Orange series planetary DC gear motors.
- Position feedback for robotic arms and joint actuation systems.
- Wheel odometry and velocity sensing in mobile robots and AGVs.
- Motor speed monitoring in conveyor and automation equipment.
- Upgrading legacy gear motor installations for precise motion control.
How to Use OE-28 Hall Effect Two Channel Magnetic Encoder
Mount the encoder onto the rear shaft of a compatible DC gear motor, ensuring the magnetic disk aligns properly. Wire Vcc to 4.5–24 V DC and connect GND, then run the A and B output lines to your controller or microcontroller’s interrupt inputs. Read the quadrature pulses, configure your firmware for 7 counts per shaft revolution, and apply the gearbox multiplication factor for accurate position or speed feedback.

Frequently Asked Questions
What voltage and current requirements does the OE-28 encoder have?
The OE-28 Hall sensor requires an input voltage between 4.5 V and 24 V DC and draws a maximum current of 10 mA during operation.
How do I calculate the encoder counts at the gearbox output?
Start with the 7 counts per motor shaft revolution. To get the gearbox output resolution, multiply your gear ratio by 48 (the quadrature edge count standard for this encoder).
Can I use this encoder on other DC gear motors?
Yes. As long as the motor has a rear shaft extension long enough to mount the magnetic disk, the OE-28 encoder can be fitted to most planetary DC gear motors for feedback applications.
