Limitations to design around
Told straight, before you order
Colour is limited. Standard parts arrive natural grey, or dyed through-black. There is no broad colour palette — the full-colour grade exists but is markedly weaker and only rated to about 80 °C.
The surface is slightly grainy and mildly porous. It feels good in the hand but it is not a cosmetic gloss finish, and it will pick up stains and oils unless sealed or painted.
Nylon absorbs atmospheric moisture, which shifts dimensions slightly and softens the part over time in humid conditions.
Fully enclosed hollows trap unfused powder. Design in escape holes of at least 2.5 mm, or expect the part to arrive heavier and rattling.
Sharp external corners round off very slightly at this layer thickness.
The 175 °C figure is heat deflection at low load. Under real mechanical stress PA12 is good to about 95 °C — design to that number, not the headline one.
