SLA cures liquid photopolymer with a laser, layer by layer, and nothing else we offer comes close to it for surface quality or fine detail. Walls down to half a millimetre, crisp lettering, sharp edges and a finish close to injection moulding come straight off the machine. Heat resistance is the real limitation. Most of these resins have a heat-deflection temperature between 46 °C and 72 °C, so parts will soften in a parked car, near a motor, or in direct Indian summer sun. Only the high-temperature grade reaches about 101 °C — pick it deliberately, or move to nylon.
Cured resin is stiffer and more brittle than nylon. It chips and snaps rather than bending, so snap-fits, living hinges and drop-tested parts belong in MJF or SLS.
Ultraviolet light continues to work on resin after printing. Parts left in sunlight yellow and grow more brittle over months.
Supports are required. Down-facing surfaces carry small witness marks unless you specify additional finishing.
Resin keeps shrinking slightly for several days after printing — expect drift on the order of 0.15–0.2 mm on larger dimensions.
Large thin unsupported panels can bow. Add ribs, or thicken to the 2 mm end of the wall range.
Heat-deflection figures quoted here are measured at low load (0.45 MPa). A part under real mechanical stress will deform well below its stated number.
