DC 3-5V X9C103S Digital Potentiometer Board Module for Arduino
This text describes the DC 3-5V X9C103S Digital Potentiometer Board Module for Arduino. A digital potentiometer (XDCP) is a device that can adjust the resistance between two points electronically. The X9C103S has four main components: a resistor array, wiper switches, a control section, and non-volatile memory. The resistor array has 99 resistors connected in series, with tap points between each resistor and at both ends. The wiper switches can connect any tap point to the wiper terminal, which is the output of the device. The control section uses a three-wire interface (CS, U/D, and INC) to move the wiper position up or down along the resistor array. The non-volatile memory can store the wiper position when the device is powered off and recall it when the device is powered on again.
The DC 3-5V X9C103S Digital Potentiometer has three sections: the input control, counter and decode section; the non-volatile memory; and the resistor array. The input control section works like an up/down counter that counts the pulses from the INC input and determines the direction of the count from the U/D input. The counter output is decoded to select one of the 100 electronic switches that connect a tap point to the wiper terminal. The counter value can be saved in the non-volatile memory under certain conditions and used for future reference.
The resistor array consists of 99 resistors of equal value connected in series. The electronic switches can connect any tap point to the wiper terminal, which changes the resistance between the wiper and the fixed terminals. The wiper does not move beyond the first or last position of the resistor array, so there is no wrap-around effect. The electronic switches operate in a “make-before-break” mode, which means that more than one tap point can be connected to the wiper terminal for a short time when the wiper changes position. This can temporarily reduce the total resistance of the device if the wiper moves several positions at once.
