Raspberry Pi Zero Without Headers
The Raspberry Pi Zero W is here, and it’s got a major upgrade! Can you guess what it is? (Hint: W). No, it’s not just a letter—it stands for WiFi!
That’s right! The Pi Zero W now comes with built-in WiFi, thanks to the addition of the BCM43143 WiFi chip. Sound familiar? It’s the same chip used in the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B. And just like the Pi 3, the Pi Zero W also includes Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), making it even more versatile.
We’re particularly excited about this upgrade because it allows us to ditch those cumbersome communication peripherals like Ethernet cables or WiFi dongles. The best part? The Pi Zero W has the same form factor, connections, and mounting holes as the Pi Zero v1.3, so you can use most of your existing accessories—just without needing a separate WiFi dongle!
The Pi Zero W still packs all the core features of the original Pi Zero, including a microSD card slot, mini HDMI port, two micro USB ports (one for power, one for data), 512MB of RAM, and a single-core 1GHz processor. All of this is packed into the smallest, slimmest Raspberry Pi yet.
In addition to the Pi Zero’s functionality, the Pi Zero W adds 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connectivity, making it an even more powerful tool for a wide range of projects.
