How to Use PIMORONI MMC (micro SD) HAT for Raspberry Pi
Plug the MMC HAT onto your Pi’s 40-pin GPIO header, insert a microSD card into its slot, then edit /boot/config.txt to enable the MMC overlay (e.g. add dtoverlay=mmc). Save and reboot—your external card will appear as /dev/mmcblk1 for boot or data storage. On Pi Zero W and 3B/3B+ the onboard WiFi is disabled by the SDIO takeover; on Pi 4 all three interfaces run together.

Will the MMC HAT disable onboard WiFi?
On Raspberry Pi Zero W, 3B and 3B+ the MMC HAT uses the same SDIO interface that powers onboard WiFi, so wireless will be disabled when the HAT is active. Raspberry Pi 4 has a separate SD controller, so WiFi remains functional.
Can I boot my Raspberry Pi from the MMC HAT?
Yes. After installing the HAT and inserting a microSD card, edit /boot/config.txt to enable the MMC overlay. Upon reboot, the Pi will detect and boot from the card in the HAT’s slot.
Is the HAT compatible with Raspberry Pi Zero without soldering?
You’ll need to attach a set of 2×20 female GPIO headers to the Pi Zero or Zero W to mount the MMC HAT. Once headers are in place, the HAT slides on directly for immediate storage expansion.
