Shift Register IC – SN74HC595N
The SN74HC595N is a straightforward 8-bit shift register integrated circuit (IC). In essence, this shift register serves as a bridge between a microcontroller and additional inputs or outputs by converting data between parallel and serial formats.
Your chosen microprocessor communicates with the SN74HC595N using serial data, which is then processed to gather or output information in a parallel (multi-pin) format. Essentially, it captures 8 bits from the serial input and then distributes them to 8 pins.
Contained within a small Dual In-line Package (DIP), this IC features an 8-bit serial-in parallel-out shift register. It feeds an 8-bit D-type storage register equipped with parallel 3-state outputs.
Note: This is a drop-in replacement for the 74HC595 shift register IC and should function just fine in any application the previous version could.
